Shane Bond, a former New Zealand pacer, has been named MI Emirates’ head coach for the inaugural International League T20 season, it was announced on Saturday. Bond is the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, which is significant to note (IPL). The coaching staff includes current Mumbai Indians talent scouts Parthiv Patel and Vinay Kumar, who will make their coaching debuts as batting coach Parthiv Patel, bowling coach Vinay Kumar, and fielding coach James Franklin, a former MI all-rounder.
Robin Singh will also serve as MI Emirates’ General Manager of Cricket due to his extensive experience in UAE cricket. “It’s a privilege to be appointed the Head Coach of MI Emirates. It’s always exciting to build a new team and I’m looking forward to furthering the MI legacy and inspiring our players to take the game to new heights,” Bond said in an official media release. Since joining the Mumbai Indians in 2015, Shane Bond has helped bowlers reach their full potential on the international level, winning four championships in the process. Since joining the Mumbai Indians coaching staff in 2010, Robin Singh has participated in 5 IPL and 2 Champions League campaigns. He has also closely collaborated with Shane Bond. Robin’s involvement with UAE cricket will be beneficial as MI Emirates spreads MI’s cricket ethos there.
Parthiv Patel, a former player for the Mumbai Indians, has been a member of the talent scouting squad since 2020. Vinay Kumar, another former MI player, joined the team in 2021. In the victorious campaigns for the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017, Parthiv and Vinay both participated. James Franklin, a former MI all-rounder and coach, has also been hired by MI Emirates as a fielding coach. This team will be well-positioned to inject MI Emirates with everything that MI resonates with because they have a solid foundation in MI. Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm, said: “I welcome Shane, Robin, Parthiv, Vinay and James to their new roles in MI Emirates. Having been an integral part of MI for various periods of time, the coaching team is exceptionally well-versed in the values that make MI what it is. I’m sure they would be able to build MI Emirates as a team that attracts the love of passionate MI fans.”
